CertifiChecks, the Streator Chamber's administrator of the Gift Certificate program  has changed their policy for redeeming expired Gift Certificates.  Their practice has been to honor all certificates presented for redemption, including those which have expired.  Going forward, they will follow the state's law with respect to the expiration of gift certificates.  In Illinois the gift certificates currently can be expired after one year of the date of issuance.

What this means is that when a certificates reaches the one year anniversary of its issuance and it remains unredeemed, the banks will return to the merchant any such expired gift certificates. This policy goes into effect immediately.  Therefore, the merchants need to pay attention to the date printed on the certificates to avoid accepting a certificate that has expired.  If you have any questions please contact Certifichecks at 1-877-770-4438 ext. 230 or contact the Chamber office at (815)-672-2921.
